Volkswagen presents the new Touareg

Volkswagen presents the new Touareg

Volkswagen is updating the third generation Touareg with major improvements: the suspension, as well as the concept of a large SUV screen and the driving mode have been revised, while the front and rear design has become more attractive.

The most interesting features are the recently developed HD matrix headlights and LED rear lights, which are implemented as a single light strip.

For the first time in Germany, it includes an illuminated red Volkswagen logo.

According to Imelda Labbé, member of the Volkswagen Board of Directors for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales: “The new Touareg impresses with its high quality and exceptional comfort. Once again we have implemented the wishes of our customers in this model: We made the design more modern, we integrated the illuminated rear logo and made the operation more intuitive. We have also improved the driving characteristics, making our premium Volkswagen even better. The result is a true all-rounder that will delight both on the road and on the trails .

Future-oriented technologies have been seen for the first time in the Touareg – a skill that often benefits small car classes.

According to Kai Grünitz, Board Member for Volkswagen Development: “The Touareg has always been a technology pioneer for us, allowing us to transfer new and more sophisticated developments to our other models as part of a top-down strategy. And we are taking the same approach with the new Touareg. It is the first Volkswagen model to be launched with the new HD matrix headlights – one of the best lighting systems in the world. More than 38,000 interactive LEDs create a wide beam, a light carpet on the driving lane and illuminate the road more precisely than ever before. We will soon bring this HD matrix lighting system to the next, smaller models in the SUV segment.

New lighting system. Another advantage of the new optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix lights is the high beam that does not disturb oncoming drivers: this continuous high beam can remain permanently illuminated outside the city, because the interactive LED lights ensure that the coverage area for oncoming traffic and the cars in front of you are more accurate than ever.

Modern design. The first new SUV is immediately recognizable by the new front and rear design. At the front, the entire design of the radiator grille, headlights and front apron have been given a new look. The design of the rear end is also more different: it now has a single horizontal LED strip for the taillights and includes the Volkswagen logo.2 which is highlighted in red. For the first time this feature has been included in a Volkswagen model in Germany. Previously, the featured brand logo was only allowed in markets such as China and the United States.

All in one – maximum travel comfort and excellent performance. Volkswagen has improved the suspension of the Touareg. Among other things, the Touareg now comes standard with a new roof load sensor that is integrated directly into the suspension electronics. If a roof load is detected, it allows a control system such as ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to intervene early to increase driving stability. On the contrary, if there is no roof load, the system enables more sports performance. Depending on the version, the Touareg is available with innovative suspension technology such as active roll compensation and a four-wheel steering system. This further improves the dynamic handling of the first SUV.

Interior renovation. The standard equipment of the new Touareg also includes the Innovision Cockpit. It includes the Digital Cockpit and the advanced Discover Pro Max entertainment system. Various functions of the Innovision Cockpit, such as precise route navigation and high-resolution HD map data, have been improved in the new model. Standard volume controls have also been improved. USB-C sockets with a charging capacity of 45 Watts (previously 15 Watts) enable faster charging of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets or laptops. In addition, based on customer feedback, the quality level of the Touareg’s interior has been further improved. For example, the upholstery of the center console is now softer than before, providing extra comfort.

Effective driver assistance systems. The Touareg has a large number of comfort systems and driver assistance as standard. In addition, a variety of optional systems are available.

These include, but are not limited to the following technologies:

  • “Travel Assistance”3 (to help drive up to high speed)
  • “Park Assist Plus with remote control”3 (via automatic driving software in and out of seats

parking, the driver can control the parking process even from outside

car)

  • “Trailer Help”3 (with trailer-assisted trickery)
  • “Night vision”3 (night mode support)

Many types of engine systems – such as gasoline, diesel or plugin hybrid. The new Touareg will be available in five powertrain versions. Except for the turbocharged gasoline engine4, there is a choice between two turbodiesel engines and two plug-in hybrids. All high-performance engines come standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive.
