A volkswagen will expand its line of electric vehicles, which already includes names such as ID. 4 It is ID.5, in the coming years. According to a British magazine thenThe automaker is planning three more new SUVs, one of which will come from the ID. 2one electric tiguan fully renovated and still a top SUV, it’s also battery-powered, for example.
The ID.4 and ID.5 models will also receive more powerful power kits later this year, according to the report. There is no further information on which powertrain will be chosen, but it is assumed that it will be the same one present on the ID.7 model, using rear wheel drive and 210 kW, meaning 285 hp. There will probably also be the use of all-wheel drive, as shown on the Cupra Tavascan, for example.
In addition to the new electric motor from the ID.7, the all-wheel drive has a Magna 80 kW electric front axle, and the set power will be limited to 250 kW for the battery. A new powertrain, along with new in-flight entertainment, will be included in the facelift for both models in 2024. A new 15.4-inch touchscreen is also expected, seen on the revised ID.3.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan will also be electric
The new Tiguan, after much speculation, will arrive first. The model will have a more traditional look, compared to the ID.4 and ID.5, for example, and is expected to be launched in the next two years. However, it will be possible to choose the available configuration of traction, between the rear and the key, as well as the seating arrangement: between 5 and 7 places.
The car will be based on the MEB+ electric platform, which offers more charging power and autonomy, for example. In addition, the model will also have a new unitary battery cell, which will be launched in 2025. Regarding the dimensions, the combustion model measures 4.55 meters in length, which puts it apart from the ID.4 and ID.5, but will be released with them. Apparently, the model will be manufactured in Wolfsburg.
The brand plans a small SUV
The brand is still planning another SUV, this time it’s complicated. The model will be an electric option against the T-Cross, so it will be the most basic version in the electric line. Since it is called ID.2X, it will be possible to share the technology of other models, such as Skoda’s entry-level SUV and ID.2all, for example. It is expected to arrive on the market in 2026.
The model will use a lower version of the MEB platform, where only front-wheel drive will be offered. Batteries with 38 kWh and 56 kWh will be available, which offers a range of 290 to 420 kilometers, for example. However, the brand will use standard cell batteries, with low-cost LFP chemistry, coming from a special factory for these cells, in Sagunto, Spain. The cars, however, will be manufactured in Barcelona.
Volks’ third SUV will be positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, and will be based on the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). With that, it should measure between 4.50 and 4.90 meters in length, and it can replace the ID.8 model, with seven seats and 4.88 m, sold only in China. However, its release is only scheduled for 2028.
As with the previous proposals, it will be possible to choose the required traction, and because it has a platform that supports 800-volt systems, it has a very fast charge. The more expensive models will use batteries with NMC chemistry, which are part of a set of prismatic cells available, while the LFP is for the cheaper models.
Finally, the top of the line SUV resembles an electric sedan called “Trinity”, based on the same SSP platform, developed during the management of Ralf Brandstätter.
