The Volkswagen Group and Enel X Way, the Enel Group company dedicated to electric mobility, have launched Ewiva. This joint venture was created with the intention of contributing to the development of electric mobility in Italy through the deployment of a high power charging network (HPC – High Power Charging) combining reliability and high capillarity throughout the region. With today’s announcement and the opening of the first Ewiva charging station in Rome, the Enel and Volkswagen Groups reaffirm their desire to continue their successful partnership to create a complete ecosystem in the electricity sector. electromobility in Italy.

Thomas Schmall, Member of the Volkswagen Group Management Board in charge of New Technologies and CEO of Volkswagen Group Components, said: “To ensure the success of electric vehicles, it is important to develop the charging infrastructure. Enel and Volkswagen, two strong partners from different sectors, have therefore joined together to work towards the success of electricity in Italy. »

“The creation of this joint venture represents a new step in the continuous effort made by Enel X Way and the Enel Group to develop electric mobility in Italy through the deployment of a modern high-quality electric charging network. The main goal is to help make electric cars the first choice for drivers. As part of this process, and in line with the strategy adopted by Enel X Way to create a public charging infrastructure, we are taking an open approach, in particular by making our charging network available to all mobility service providers and drivers of electric vehicles, regardless of manufacturer . »said Elisabetta Ripa, CEO of Enel X Way.

Today, Ewiva already deploys the largest superfast charging network in Italy, with 750 charging stations, some of which are waiting to be launched, spread over 233 stations, to which are added approximately 17,000 charging points already operated by Enel X Way. The partnership plans to install charging stations in a total of 500 sites by the end of 2023. The goal is to reach, by 2025, a total of 3,000 charging stations powered by 100. % renewable energy, each with a capacity of up to 350 kW. In total, Ewiva will operate more than 800 stations located mainly in the city center and suburbs, but also on the highways used by drivers on their way to work and tourists. Drivers of all types of electric vehicles, regardless of manufacturer, will be able to benefit from the HPC network used by the joint venture.

Ewiva launched on December 13, 2022 in Rome (Via Flaminia, 871) its first charging station that has a reception room open to all customers and 14 super fast charging stations, with a capacity of up to 300 kW. The facility’s roof features photovoltaic panels manufactured at Enel’s Gigafactory 3Sun site in Sicily.

Enel X Way is a new company of the Enel group dedicated to electromobility. To date, Enel X Way operates in 16 countries and controls approximately 430,000 charging points worldwide, either directly or through roaming agreements with partner operators. A global platform dedicated to electric mobility, the company aims to develop flexible charging technologies and solutions to improve customer experience and work towards the electrification of transport for individuals, professionals, cities and towns.

With the NEW AUTO strategy, the Volkswagen Group has placed charging and energy management solutions at the center of its business. The company is investing, like no other car manufacturer, in the development of fast charging networks open to the public around the world.
