After qualifying only sixth in the first free practice for the Monaco GP, claiming problems with the RBR car, current two-time world champion Max Verstappen recovered to end Friday’s second practice in the lead. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, both from Ferrari, were second and third respectively. In a press conference last Thursday, the Dutchman warned that the drivers of the Italian manufacturer will be threats on the main circuit.
The first free practice was led by Carlos Sainz. In the second session, however, the Spaniard ran into trouble. The Ferrari driver hit a barrier at the exit of the pool edge and, with SF-23 damage, went straight towards the wall. Still, he managed to take third place.
