It has almost become a tradition. Every winter, automakers set up shop in Sweden, close to the Arctic Circle, to test their future models in extreme conditions. And our spy photographers are also on a journey to immortalize these prototypes before their release. The latest, at the time of writing, is the new Volkswagen Tiguan.

The model of the new generation of the SUV family certainly appears in these photos taken by our photo hunters. If this test mule is not covered with normal camouflage, it is nevertheless camouflaged to cover the tracks. The stickers cover the headlights, grille and taillights so that they do not reflect the appearance of the new Tiguan. Also, the rear pipes are fake.

However we can guess in these spyshots a new grille that extends from one end to the other of the front face. The third-generation Tiguan also looks wider than the previous model. According to our tipsters, its final design could be inspired by the Touareg and the Volkswagen ID.4. The interior would also be affected by the ID.4, but it would have a larger touchscreen than the electric SUV coupe.

No official information filters about the engine that will be released under the hood. However, our spies are clearly eyeing the Tiguan’s electrification, with a mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid on the top-of-the-line versions. An electric variant of the Tiguan may also see the light of day.

Delivery of the new Volkswagen Tiguan is expected in 2023, before it goes on sale in 2024.

What? What do we know about the new Volkswagen Tiguan?

To the surprise of our spy photographers in December 2022, the new generation of Volkswagen Tiguan is then hidden under the hood. However we can assume the new grille adopted by the SUV, which extends from one end to the other of its front face. Volkswagen also hides the headlights, taillights and pipes, which obviously means that these things have been redesigned. Overall, the design may be inspired by the Touareg and ID.4, while the cabin may inherit a large touchscreen.

Will the SUV be available as a hybrid?

Nothing is official at the time of writing these lines, but according to our informants, the Volkswagen Tiguan may actually go hybrid with this third generation. Minor hybridization is expected on some engines, while other engines will go straight to plug-in hybridization. Or even lightning, for the second time.

What is the release date of the new Volkswagen Tiguan?

Our spies who were able to get close to a prototype of the new Volkswagen Tiguan expect an official presentation sometime in 2023, before being released in 2024.
