There is a first time for everything. Volvo FH Electric won the Truck of the Year 2024 award

Volvo Trucks has won a prestigious award for its Volvo FH Electric model. This is the first time an electric truck has won this award. The FH Electric model was chosen as the International Truck of the Year 2024. In justifying their decision, the jury praised the electric truck’s performance, smooth acceleration, silence and vibration-free behavior. “With the launch of the FH Electric, Volvo Trucks has introduced a modern range of battery electric vehicles that are suitable for a wide range of transport operations. It is proof that the energy transition is gaining momentum even in today’s challenging business environment,” said Gianenrico Griffini, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Truck of the Year.

It is the fourth time that the popular Volvo FH has been announced as the best truck of the year. The Volvo FH is one of the most successful models in the industry, with nearly 1.4 million trucks sold worldwide. The Volvo FH Electric can operate with a gross weight of up to 44 tons. Production of the electric version of the Volvo FH began in 2022 at the Volvo plant in Gothenburg, Sweden, and production began this year at the plant in Ghent, Belgium. In addition, Volvo Trucks is the market leader for electric heavy-duty trucks in Europe with a market share of 49%.

The International Truck of the Year Association was founded in 1977 and consists of 24 commercial vehicle and truck journalists from major transport agencies across Europe. The annual award is given to the truck that was launched in the last 12 months and that at the same time made the greatest contribution to the efficiency of road transport. Several key parameters are evaluated, including technological innovation, comfort, safety, affordability, energy efficiency, ecological footprint and total cost of ownership (TCO).
