Less than 48 hours after the debut of the Aston Martin DB12, the company sold the first one during a charity auction in Cannes, France. The world’s first super tourer (that’s how Aston Martin describes the DB12) sold for $1.6 million during a star-studded event in support of the amfAR Gala Cannes 2023 which will benefit the AIDS Research Foundation.
The car was brought on stage by Eva Longoria and James Marsden, while the event was also attended by celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, art and fashion. Some of the guests include Queen Latifa, actresses Rebel Wilson, Fan Bingbing and models Sara Sampaio, Bianca Balti, Heidi Klum, Stella Maxwell and Alessandra Ambrosio.
Organizers’ expectations for the car’s selling price were probably conservative, as Aston Martin says the DB12 fetched more than initial estimates. All proceeds will support basic AIDS research work. The supercar is not only the first production DB12, but will also be signed by Aston Martin Formula 1 drivers Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, who will add their signatures to the engine cover.
Other special touches that this DB12 model features include the Q and Aston Martin treatment, such as special badging on the fenders and headlining. A special plaque on the inside of the door will show the history of the car.
“Aston Martin is delighted to support amfAR in Cannes. As well as reflecting the generosity of amfAR members, the extraordinary amount raised through this charity auction highlights the passion for the new DB12 and its unique features of luxury and high performance. this model elevates it above the current GT segment,” comments Lawrence Stroll, President of Aston Martin.
The movement is provided by a twin-turbo V8 4lt engine. which comes from Mercedes and produces 680 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the DB12 reaches 0-100 in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. Regular production of the Aston Martin DB12 is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year. No pricing details yet, but its predecessor, the DB11, had an MSRP of $208,425 for the base model.
