The third generation i20 was sold in 59,914 units in 2022 alone. That’s a mark of respect for the small Korean company—in fact, it’s the brand’s third best-selling model. However, time flies and this representative of the Hyundai brand in segment B has been serving for four years, so now it has received a well-deserved modernization.
Looking out, there have been subtle changes, which is a good thing in this case. The modern i20 received a revised design of the front and rear bumpers, front and rear we also get lights with new optics and LED daytime running lights in the shape of the letter Z.
An interesting detail is the transfer of the brand logo from the front cap to the hood. 3 new colors have been added to the offer – Lucid metallic lime green and two pearl varnishes, specifically the blue shade Meta Blue and a gray called Lumen Grey. It is also possible to choose from several new alloy wheel designs with a diameter of 16 or 17 inches.
Inside, we find a basic 4.1-inch instrument panel peeking out from behind the four-spoke steering wheel, there are several USB-C connectivity ports or 4G connectivity. Larger digital displays – a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a large central infotainment display – remain optional equipment. The car software normally understands Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Only two versions of the 1.0l turbocharged three-cylinder engine remain in the engine range, the base 1.2l naturally aspirated cylinder is no longer available. The T-GDi unit will be delivered with power equivalent to 100 or 120 horses. It will be mated to either a six-speed manual, or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The successor to the popular sports version of the i20 N with the blown sixteen has not yet been confirmed.
Last but not least, safety equipment features have been enhanced – the i20 will be ready, for example, with lane keeping assistant or frontal collision assistant, which can now detect pedestrians and cyclists.
Production of the modern i20 is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2023 in Izmit, Turkey. Sales on the Czech market will also start on the same date, the first cars will arrive soon. We will inform you about the price. What is certain, however, is that the new version will be more expensive. You can get the current i20 with a four-cylinder turbocharged model at a special price starting at CZK 309,990, but the cheaper turbocharged cylinder, which will be the basis of the modern version, can be bought for up to CZK 359,990.
