The German car giant has incorporated a design inspired by other new models such as the 7 Series, X7 and XM in the new generation BMW 5 Series codenamed G60. Saying their work is the most powerful 5 Series ever, BMW officials say their goal is to design the “most stylish BMW”. Obviously, judging by the design of the car, they seem to have succeeded in this.
What does the 2024 BMW 5 Series offer along with its features❓
The kidney grille is the first eye-catching detail in the design of the 2024 BMW 5 Series, because the company has replaced the large grilles in the new SUV models with a normal-sized grille this time, and it has done well. It is possible to say that the vertical air enters the edges of the bumper in the front part, where the LED lights that look angry attract attention around the grille, also supporting the car’s sporty character.
The new BMW 5 Series and the fully electric i5 version ride on the company’s CLAR platform. When we look at the dimensions of the car, we see that it has increased compared to its predecessor. The overall length has increased by almost 90 mm to 5060 mm, and the width has increased by 32 mm to 1900 mm. White distance, on the other hand, is 2995 mm with an increase of 20 mm. This will undoubtedly increase the legroom offered to the rear passengers. In addition, the coefficient of air friction of the car was declared to be 0.23.
internal affairs
Cargo volume is advertised as 520 liters in the internal combustion engine and PHEV, that is, rechargeable hybrid versions, and 490 liters in the fully electric i5. Of course, it is possible to increase this space even more with the 40:20:40 folding rear seats. If this is not enough, the new Safari 5 Series Touring, which will be sold in Europe in the future, will meet the need for cargo and the body type of the station wagon.
Engine options
The new BMW 5 Series; It answers almost every need with petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions. The European range starts with the BMW 520i with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine producing 208 hp. On the diesel side, there are the 197 hp BMW 520d and 520d xDrive versions. A 48V mild hybrid system and 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission are standard on all engines.
In the first place in Turkey, the fully electric BMW i5 model will be available for pre-order in the third quarter of this year. Sales will begin in the last quarter of the year. In addition to the electric model, we will see the 520d xDrive version in our country in the last quarter. The 520i will arrive in 2024. It seems unlikely that BMW will introduce plug-in hybrid versions.
The all-electric BMW i5
The fully electric i5, which is included in the BMW 5 Series for the first time in this generation, currently has two different versions. The entry-level version eDrive40 has a rear-wheel drive engine. This model, which produces a maximum power of 335 hp and a maximum torque of 430 Nm with its acceleration feature, completes the acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 6 seconds. The i5 battery of 81.2 kWh, whose maximum speed is limited to 193 km / h, promises a driving range of 497 – 582 km according to WLTP.
The new BMW i5 M60 xDrive delivers 601 hp and 820 Nm of torque with an electric motor on each front and rear axle. This reduces the car’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time to 3.8 seconds. The battery capacity of the model, where the maximum speed is limited to 230 km / h, is the same as the other version. The range promised in this version is 455 – 516 km. BMW says that using the new Max Range feature, the range can be increased up to 25 percent by reducing power, speed and comfort features.
New support for changing akfit path
Apart from all these features, another amazing feature of the new BMW 5 Series is that it has Active Lane Change Assist. This system, which is said to be the first in the world, gives a suggestion to the driver to change the lane, so the driver has to check the side mirror in the desired direction. The system, which describes this as permitting, automatically changes lanes when traffic is appropriate.
