The best selling car in the world for the 1st 4 months of 2023, is the EV…

The figures released by JATO Dynamics confirm, in the language of numbers, that the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in the world for the first 4 months of 2023, surpassing the Toyota Corolla family in sales. The top was “painted” in EV colors, with predictions saying that the year will end with the Model Y in first place!

267,200 Tesla Model Ys have been registered worldwide in the first months of 2023, compared to 256,400 Toyota Corollas.

Of course, those who follow motoring events more or less expected this development. After all, in 2022, the Tesla Model Y was in third place overall in the global ranking, with 747,000 registrations, ahead of the Toyota Corolla (992,000 units) and the RAV4 (1,016,000 units).

But after Elon Musk’s announcement at the beginning of 2023, about a significant reduction in the sales price of Tesla models, the international classification of the American brand increased. In fact, in some markets the increase in sales of the Model Y in particular exceeded 90%!

Although Tesla doesn’t break down sales of its electric vehicles by model or market, everyone knows that the Tesla Model Y is now the best-selling EV in its lineup, with the Model 3 a close second.

It makes sense in a way, especially if you consider the desire that consumers have for SUV models and the fact that the brand’s all-American Gigafactory produces the Model Y.

So this, one could say, is a historic moment, given that it is the first time that an electric car has led international sales. Tesla Model Y achieved this result after increasing its sales by 69% compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, the Toyota Corolla continued its downward trend as of 2022, showing a 29% decrease in sales in China and 10% in the United States. This is good news for Tesla and bad news for Toyota obviously.

Although the sales figures for the two models are very close to give us the rest of the derby, the distance between them is expected to increase in the coming months. At least this is the support of the financial analysts of the market, especially they see the current trend in China.

Toyota still has the upper hand in global sales, however, as all other brands in the Top 5 carry its logo. The Toyota Hilux has registered 214,700 registrations to date, followed by the RAV4 with 211,000 registrations while the Toyota Camry completes the top five with 166,200 registrations.
