The AG2R Citroën team becomes the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale: a team in the top five in terms of budget, next to INEOS and the UAE

There are many visible changes in the cycling team AG2R La Mondiale, a WorldTour format that ran from 2021 to 2023 as the AG2R Citroën Team. Decathlon will be the new co-sponsor of the French racing team, which will be known as Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale from January 1, 2024.

The announcement of Decathlon as the new sponsor of the team and, among others, Ben O’Connor, Oliver Naesen and Dorian Godon in its ranks, took place without much logic in one of the many branches of the international sports chain. The village of BTWIN – Decathlon Cycle Lille, a store that focuses mainly on bicycles, was the scene of festive activities, which were witnessed by a large crowd of visitors.

In terms of budget, Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale is close to INEOS Grenadiers and Emirates Team Emirates.

Van Rysel, a brand that has played a major role within the Decathlon group since 2019, will play an important role in the racing project of team manager Vincent Lavenu from next year. The company, which focuses more on performance-oriented racing bikes, will sponsor not only bikes, but also helmets and goggles. In short, a lot of changes!

Among others Parisian reports that the team is improving so much that Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale ends up in the top five of the teams with the biggest budgets. With a budget of 26 million euros per year, the team is improving by three million euros compared to last year. This brings the team closer to rich teams such as INEOS Grenadiers and UAE Team Emirates.
