Jeep Compass is the standout leader among medium SUVs in Brazil. This year alone, there have been more than 20,000 units, almost double that of the second-placed Toyota Corolla Cross. And one of its most interesting versions is the Trailhawk with an adventurous look and a 2.0 turbodiesel engine with 4×4 appeal.
It was on board that the R7-Autos Carros crossed the dune circuit, on the coast of the states of Ceará and Piauí. The events of this phenomenon extend to Maranhão but we drove almost 300 km with Dira in a caravan, as part of the Jeep Destinos – Rota das Emotions event, over three days.
The circuit starts in Jericoacoara/CE passing the beach and sandy roads with the intensive use of 4×4 traction. By extension, we also almost always use the “sand/mud” mode, which holds the diesel engine at high speed, delaying gear changes in favor of power.
On the dunes, the Compass diesel showed its control to conquer the steep slopes on the ridges and rolling terrain typical of the coast. Through rivers, flooded floors and, sometimes, asphalt, Compass works with technology to avoid losing traction.
We cross the city towards Camocim, using the ferry across the Coreaú river. There we used the automatic traction mode on the tarmac, which is a rarity in the area. Along with the stretch, it was possible to test other technologies present in the Compass Trailhawk such as automation, front sensors, automatic braking, among other things.
On the way to Piauí, we leave Barra dos Remédios along the BR402 heading south around Ilha Grande. On the asphalt stretch, we leave the 4×4 mode for front-wheel drive, which is more generous for car use. We reached Cajueiro da Praia and then Barrinha, on the short beach of Piauí. The end of the event was in the city of Parnaíba, near Maranhão, where the hills of these three northeastern states spread.
The Compass Trailawlk is powered by a 2.0 Multijet turbodiesel engine with 170hp and 35kgfm of torque mated to a nine-speed gearbox. It was not difficult to overcome the challenges along the way. In total, the Jeep Destinos convoy included 12 vehicles from the Renegade lines (T270 with a 1.3 flex engine and 4×4 traction), Compass and Commander with a 2.0 turbodiesel 4×4. As support, the caravan used a Jeep Wrangler and a Gladiator pick-up with more impressive capabilities.
This version has a good look with a hood sticker, front hook and features like 10.1-inch multimedia with navigation and wireless mobile phone mirror, six-speaker premium Beats audio, dual-zone air conditioning, leather seats with electric adjustment. for the driver, a digital and configurable dashboard with a 10.25-inch screen and a sunroof. The amount charged is around R$ 250,000 plus R$ 10,000 for the roof, which is the only option.

Expensive compared to the price of other mid-range models on the market but none will have the advantage of 4×4 traction and technologies of the Compass Trailhawk. It compares in terms of all-wheel drive and space to the Ford Bronco and indirectly to the Fiat Toro Ultra with the same 2.0 turbodiesel engine and 4×4 traction.
