Skoda offers talented students of its technical schools the opportunity to create the car of their dreams.
Since 2013 in the Czech Republic, Skoda third-year students, for a whole academic year, have been involved in a major transformation of the company’s existing model. With this project they gain important skills, improve their practical skills and enter into the spirit of teamwork.
A similar program is now being implemented in India by an academy run by Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited. The idea came from Azubi’s internal initiative, where high school students in India built unique cars, something Skoda students also did for the first time in the country.
The exclusive Skoda Rapid
The cabrio model you see in the related images is based on the four-door Rapid sedan, which Skoda has in the Indian market. Mechatronics students removed the roof, installed a Led light on the grille and an illuminated Skoda logo on the tailgate. Notice, too, the yellow calipers that stand behind the gloss black wheels, while this color scheme extends to the lower door sills and the base of the front bumper.
Inside now, the challenge the students had to face was to attach the seat belts to the structure of the front seats, as cabrios do not have center pillars. The radio has also been replaced with a modern touchscreen infotainment system, while the seats are covered in red leather. It should be noted that a sports exhaust system is also installed.
The Rapid is no longer in Skoda’s European range, but continues its work in India. In fact, it was the first car of the Czech company that was developed specifically for the Indian market. The Rapid sedan is manufactured in the city of Pune and uses the PQ25 platform which was the basis of small and compact cars from the Volkswagen Group, before the existing MQB platform.
