Pontevedra says goodbye to one of its emblematic buildings, Prayer Karma. The nightclub and concert hall on Marques de Riestra Street had been closed for a month, but this Tuesday the management announced that. The closure will remain “indefinitely”. The reason, they explain, is a complaint from a local resident, Therefore, they will have to put the buildings through “extensive work” to cope with the updated fire and noise regulations.
“We have to make a big investment,” says the official statement published by Karma on its social networks, “We still don’t know if we can deal with it“. The renovation of the room will be of a large size: it will include fixing the buildings “to the current regulations, where everyone is safe, which takes into account fire regulations but also noise, and capacity” and that allows “a. good acoustics for concerts”.
“We want to say goodbye to being proud but also true. We would like to ask you to remember. great job the room has been doing in these years, socially and culturally,” declares the statement, which emphasizes that Karma’s events “have put Pontevedra on the map of Galician and Spanish music.”
In view of this situation, the store will be closed indefinitely, although it is expected to be “see you later.” Finally, the statement gives a long section of thanks for nearly 18 years of Karma activities (the anniversary will be celebrated next March), is aimed at the public and the staff, donors, artists, promoters and other professionals who have collaborated on the project all this time.
