Toyota Czech Republic recently published the business results of the past year, which were very successful for the Toyota and Lexus brands. However, since Toyota is a pioneer of hybrids, we were interested in how it is doing in the Czech market in this regard. The results pleasantly surprised us. But first, let’s look at the history of the Toyota brand in the Czech Republic. This year, Toyota celebrates 30 years on the Czech market.
Since 1993, when it officially entered the Czech market, more than 150,000 new cars with the Toyota logo on the hood have been sold in the Czech Republic. With commercial vehicles (about 15 thousand) and Lexus subsidiary cars, it was 172,000. A total of 183,000 Toyota vehicles are currently in operation in the Czech Republic. The most successful example is the Yaris (including the Cross version), which sold 50 thousand units before the Corolla and half the number and the RAV4, which had 20 thousand. As part of the celebration, Toyota offers a 30% discount on equipment packages and products from the store. shop.toyota.cz and original Toyota equipment. He also starts the hit Toyota Owners Club.

Test Toyota Yaris 1.5 Hybrid (2021) – With a light foot on the gas from Prague to Košice
Last year, Toyota registered 13,728 new cars in the Czech Republic, thanks to which it finished in 4th place among brands with a market share of 6.6%. Compared to 2021, it therefore recorded 14.7% more registrations. However, the already mentioned stocks of hybrid cars are interesting. If we take the total including commercial vehicles, the share of hybrids in Toyota for 2022 was 45% and this year it is around 50% so far, so the situation is increasing. But Toyota does not offer hybrid utility vehicles, so it is more attractive among passenger cars. There, last year the share of hybrids was 65% and this year it is 66%. So it can be said that the majority of Toyota cars are hybrids. Of these, 4% are plug-in hybrids, which is due to the limited allocation of the RAV4 PHEV model to the Czech market and the fact that Prius Plug-in sales have not yet started.

Even the most impressive result of the hybrid segment belongs to the first brand Lexus. The latter finished in 5th place among premium brand registrations with 881 registrations. But almost all Lexuses sold last year were hybrids, which is 90% of them. Of these, the share of plug hybrids was 21%. This year, the share of hybrids is even 95%, of which 20% are plug hybrids. So we can say that Lexuses, which rely only on the internal combustion engine, are sold at a low level in the Czech Republic and their share is still decreasing.

This year we should also see the fully electric Lexus RZ 450e, so it will be interesting to see the ratio of fully electric cars. The same with Toyota for example bZ4X. However, it is likely that the number of cars sold for these vehicles will be reduced by allocation to the Czech market, such as the RAV4 PHEV.
