New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) star Mercedes Mone has extended her contract with the organization. This news comes after his previous contract expired on April 27. Mone was working overnight, but recent reports confirm that he has now agreed to a long-term contract with NJPW.
The decision to give Mone a long-term contract was due to his strong drawing ability, especially evident during San Jose’s sold-out show at the Civic Auditorium. The NJPW Women’s Power Championship was created specifically for Mone, further highlighting her importance to the company.
However, Mone’s journey has not been without its challenges. During her match with Willow Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence on May 21, Mone suffered an injury to her right ankle. Despite initial concerns of a broken ankle, NJPW confirmed that Mone would be temporarily sidelined while he continues his recovery.
The match with Nightingale was aimed at winning the title of the first NJPW Strong Women’s Champion. Due to Mone’s injury, AEW and ROH star Willow Nightingale became the first holder of the new title.
