When asked if he could “steal” from a rival team, Brown disputed the negative nature of the deal and put the Swedish driver as a possible target.
“First, I don’t believe that people steal things. I believe people miss things. Marcus [Ericsson] he did an exceptional job. I know him from System 1 some time ago. He is very humble. You did a fantastic job. he won indie 500, led the league for a while. It will definitely be considered if we decide to make a fourth car,” Brown told them athlete.

Although the American magazine has supported the view that Ericsson is not in the sights of McLaren, the CEO returned to be enthusiastic about the possibility in another speech. According to Brown, the current owner of the car #8 seems like a popular name in the test market indiewith great commercial potential.
“I believe him [Ericsson] he’s probably the top free agent, so I’m a little surprised given how strong things are commercially and reading the information that his current roster. [Ganassi] does not have commercial confidence that it can sell [vencedor da] indie 500 and a championship contender, and signature [uma extensão de contrato]. I understand they probably have a bit of time, so I’m sure they’re working on it.”
“But I wouldn’t have let him go if he was driving me and I had business confidence that I could get funding. But that’s not my problem. So if he becomes a free agent, if we have a fourth car, he’s definitely going to get a lot of attention.”
