LG Chem has begun supplying engineering plastics to Mitsubishi Motors for its powder-coated parts used as front fascias for the RVR, Delica D:5 and Outlander models. The front fender is on the side of the cars. It is not only one of the important elements in the exterior design, but also protects its wheels from road dirt. Therefore, it must not only have a high level of mechanical strength but also excellent external quality to maintain the structure of great integrity and other functions of the car.

LUCON TX5007 developed by LG Chem is a composite material that combines a thermo-modified polyphenylene alloy (mPPE) and polyamide (PA66) with carbon nanotubes (CNT). It has excellent electrical conductivity and exhibits strong mechanical properties. In addition, this product has exceptional heat resistance, making it suitable for the automotive painting process of 200°C or more. At the same time, it also offers excellent dimensional stability thanks to its low coefficient of thermal linear expansion (CLTE).

In general, the use of plastic instead of steel/aluminum contributes to the lightness of the vehicle. When a plastic fender is used, the weight of the car is reduced by about 4 kg, which also improves fuel efficiency. Additionally, plastic wraps can provide other benefits, such as reducing emissions and carbon footprint.
