Jeep Renegade is being investigated by the MP for major defects

Procon-MG is asking for testimonials from customers who had headaches with the Jeep Renegade. The problem can cause damage of more than R$ 20,000 to the owner

Once again Jeep finds itself involved in a blog with technical problems with its vehicles in Brazil. An example this time is the Jeep Renegade, which is being investigated by the Ministry of Public Affairs of Minas Gerais (MPMG), through Procon-MG. And failure is a major defect that can cause serious damage to the user’s pocket!

Procon-MG opened Administrative Procedure (PA) MPMG-0024.21.016837-3 to investigate the possible contamination of Jeep Renegade’s automatic transmission with radiator fluid. The agency is requesting information from the owners to assist in the investigation of the case. The study focuses on Jeep Renegade vehicles with a convertible engine and AT6 transmission.

The failure in question concerns the heat exchanger, the part responsible for cooling the automatic transmission while it is running. In some cases, the coolant can undergo electrolysis and lose its ability to protect parts. In such cases, the transmission oil is contaminated, penalized for the gearbox. Repairs can easily exceed R$ 20,000.

The investigation by the MPMG is carried out by the prosecutor Fernando Ferreira Abreu. The agency requests registration of cases with this defect from vehicle owners. Searching the Reclame Aqui site, there are several complaints about this failure.

until July 20, 2023, containing the following data: 1) vehicle year / model; 2) if repairs were made by the seller under warranty or free of charge; 3) if there was a refusal to repair by the seller (inform the date); and if the repair was done in a workshop other than the dealer (send invoice and report).

Action in court

In November 2022, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Minas Gerais Public Ministry (MPMG) filed a public action, with a request for immediate relief, against FCA Fiat Chrysler Automóveis Brasil Ltda, the National Secretariat of Traffic (Senatran ) and the Union will be sentenced to implement the removal of the Jeep Compass diesel and flex car, manufactured starting in 2018. In addition, the organizations want to be fined 50 million dollars and that the company will have to buy back the defective cars.

In the same month, Jeep announced the recall of the Renegade, Compass and Commander models, from the 2022 and 2023 model years. The recall was carried out due to a problem discovered in the high-pressure fuel pump, which could cause a fire hazard.
