ITA Airways, the national airline of Italy, took delivery of its first A330-900, leased from Air Leasing, during an event in Toulouse. The A330neo will join ITA Airlines’ fleet in June to serve its long-haul routes and new intercontinental destinations.
The A330neo is the latest generation aircraft from Airbus to join the ITA Airways fleet. The airline already operates all Airbus aircraft families with a fleet of 68 Airbus aircraft (4 A220s, 50 A320 Family, 8 A330-200s and 6 A350-900s). By choosing the A330neos, ITA Airways further strengthens its strategy of becoming an all-Airbus operator and raises new levels of efficiency and flexibility.
With the introduction of the new generation of environmentally efficient A330neo, ITA Airlines continues to improve its fleet to achieve its ambitious sustainability goals. To further support this mission, the delivery flight will be powered by a 16% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) blend.
The A330neo offers unrivaled operating economy and features an award-winning cabin with more passenger space, a new lighting system, the latest inflight entertainment systems and full in-cabin connectivity.
ITA Airways’ A330neo, named Gelindo Bordin, after the Italian Olympic marathon champion, will feature a three-class cabin layout designed by renowned architect Walter De Silva. It will have 30 fully reclining seats in business class, 24 premium seats and 237 seats in the latest generation economy class, of which 36 are dedicated to economy class comfort. All seats will have on-demand video and audio content, as well as full Wi-Fi connectivity and customizable ambient lighting throughout the cabin.
The A330neo is the next generation version of the popular widebody A330. Featuring state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, new wings and numerous aerodynamic innovations, this aircraft offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The A330-900 is capable of flying 7,200 nautical miles for 13,334 kilometers non-stop.
At the end of April, the A330 Family had a total of more than 1,775 company orders, of which 289 are A330neos from 25 customers. To date, 100 A330neos have been delivered worldwide.
