Hyundai and Kia Reach New Sales Mark of Selling 5 Million Eco-Cars Worldwide: Report (replay photo)

Hyundai and Come on have revealed that all automakers have reached a new sales milestone; Automakers have registered an environmentally friendly total car sales more than 5 million worldwide as stated by company officials in a recent report published by the news agency.

The report states that South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia together have reached a new sales milestone of selling 5 million environmentally friendly vehicles worldwide in the past 15 years.

The report states that these two South Korean automakers have collectively sold approximately 5.11 million environmentally friendly vehicles worldwide. These include – electric vehicles (EVs), Plug in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The data includes environmentally friendly vehicles sold by these two manufacturers from 2009 to January 2024, citing a report published by Yonhap news agency.

According to the report, Hyundai and Kia together sold approximately 1.36 million environmentally friendly vehicles in 2023. This was the second year in a row that these automakers together sold 1 million environmentally friendly vehicles. Where HEVs accounted for approximately 57.8 percent of sales, EVs accounted for 30.8 percent of sales, PHEVs accounted for 10.6 percent of sales and FCEVs accounted for 0.8 percent of sales. Among the best performers in the sales of eco-friendly cars worldwide, the Kia Niro managed to increase the sales of 6,06,000 units, the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid managed to increase the sales of 3,56,000 units and the Hyundai Kona managed to fall. sales of approximately 3,32,000 units.

The report adds that Hyundai and Kia have jointly set a target of selling 1.5 million environmentally friendly vehicles in 2024 worldwide. This year Hyundai plans to introduce its new small electric SUV based on Casper in the second half of the year and on the other hand Kia plans to introduce its new electric EV3 this year.
