Frankfurt, Germany, 4 December 2023: Genesis has unveiled the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain. The concept car was created as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series and will be available to race in the game from January 2024.
The 2024 X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept embodies the most emotional expression of the Genesis brand’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy. The concept was born from a design study that reflects Genesis’ passion and commitment to the Vision Gran Turismo series.
The design language Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept Vision Gran Turismo it’s clean and muscular, with volume centered on the wheels. Its design coordinates the proportions of the cabin to the rear and the typical Genesis anti-wedge attitude that is built around the parabolic tension theory, which is typical of the Genesis design range. The package design maximizes the dash-to-axle ratio while moving the drivetrain and powertrain rearward in a lean mid-engine layout.
“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” said Genesis Chief Designer John Krsteski. “We have an international team of diverse designers who are passionate about cars and racing. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that had the design elements of Genesis combined with technical performance characteristics. It has been the inspiration for our other programs.
The X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept sports a new Genesis front fascia, which draws the Crest Grille and integrates it with Quad Lights. This organizes the volume and unites the front and rear with Genesis’ Two Lines brand identifier in a lightweight aerodynamic design. Running along the body past the gently overhanging front edge, the allegorical gesture is the main feature of the sculpture, emphasizing the powerful forms of the back.
The body extends towards the rear, reaching an elliptical concave peak, which is typical for Genesis cars. It is designed with a rear spoiler and rear trailing edges for high speed aerodynamic stability. The contrast of the powerful body sculpture and the technical details of the space create the ultimate expression of the great touring spirit.
The Magma colour, first seen on the GV80 Coupe which made its European debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, continues the dynamic theme of the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept. Inspired by the Korean values of the Genesis brand, the intense shade refers to Korea’s volcanoes and the emotion, passion and vivacity of the nation’s culture.
High performance was clearly the goal of Genesis designers, who worked to achieve an attractive aerodynamic body. By integrating aerodynamic aids and planning internal and laminar flow, the drag coefficient of the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept stands at only 0.34.
The interior of the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept achieves Genesis’ vision of White Sky Aesthetics by creating a clean environment for the driver. Important tasks are prioritized to maximize focus while you’re on the run. The digital panoramic interface serves as an information center. It is integrated with a digital surround monitoring system, which provides an unobstructed view of nearby vehicles. Grip-by-wire controls allow for precise and decisive steering, giving the driver a competitive edge.
The carbon fiber cabin strategically incorporates soft-touch surfaces wherever the driver comes into contact, as the floor-covered pillars act as protection for the driver when exiting and entering the car during pit stops.
The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept is powered by a front-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine, supported by Genesis E-SC technology. The car’s special hybrid race produces a total of 1071hp 986 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that this car is as powerful as it is beautiful. The V6 roars at 10,000 RPM while producing a maximum output of 870hp and 790 lb-ft while the Yasa E engine produces an additional 201hp and 196 lb-ft of torque.
