Porsche made a great start to the 2023 Formula E season: at the Mexico City E-Prix, the new Porsche 99X Electric Gen3 scored a double victory. The Porsche Avalanche Andretti Customer Team won the opening round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Mexico City with driver Jake Dennis (GBR). For the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, factory driver Pascal Wehrlein (GER), the 2022 winner in Mexico, took the flag in second place after a spirited charge through the field.
Watched by 40,000 enthusiastic fans, the race took first place for the spectacular third generation (GEN3) cars in the opening round of the season at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. For Porsche, it was a great start to the new Formula E era. After 41 laps on the demanding circuit, four Porsche 99X Electric Gen3s finished in the top seven, with André Lotterer scoring fourth ahead of Avalanche Andretti and António Félix da Costa. crossing the finish line seventh in his first race for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team.
Against the spectacular backdrop of the famous Foro Sol baseball stadium, Pascal Wehrlein lined up on the grid for the first round of Season 9 in P6. Thanks to the excellent strategy of the team and the excellent power training of the Porsche 99X Electric Gen3, he kept a stable car, especially in the second half of the race. Wehrlein used the Attack Mode to gain ground and position himself well for the final phase of the race. On the 29th lap, he overtook another opponent and grabbed second place. New teammate António Félix da Costa, who was just two thousandths of a second from qualifying for the duel, started his first race for Porsche since P9 and finished seventh.
