Jakarta (ANTARA) – Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez agree that the Monaco Grand Prix is a very challenging race, even this season, given that other drivers are trying to break their dominance in Formula 1.
Both agree that the Monaco Circuit is not their strongest circuit to compete for speed and performance.
“For sure we know it is not our strongest circuit. We will find it a little difficult to show our strength, but, this is Monaco, where anything can happen here,” Perez, quoted from the official website of Formula 1, on Friday.
Red Bull have won the last two races in Monaco with Verstappen taking victory in 2021, and Perez prevented Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz from winning last year.
However, despite their recent success in Monaco and a good start to the season, Perez is not so sure Red Bull can climb easily, given their tough competition with their rivals.
“Fernando (Alonso), Ferrari (Leclerc and Sainz), I expect them to be strong enough like in Baku (Azerbaijan GP), and obviously in one round around this area they will be strong. I hope they are strong enough and Mercedes can also join (in the match),” said the Mexican athlete.
On the other hand, Verstappen has the same opinion as his colleagues when examining Red Bull’s chances this weekend. The two-time world champion explained that qualifying on Saturday (27/5) will decide who will win the main race on Sunday (28/5).
“We weren’t very dominant in qualifying. We’ve always been very good in the race but in this race we knew we couldn’t pass. It’s very important to have a strong qualifying and make sure the car gets in. It’s the best situation for one lap because that’s what the weekend is all about, ” Verstappen explained.
