This is a heavily updated version of the five-door Mini. With an updated appearance and a new interior, the car can continue for a long time, but contrary to expectations, it also turns out to include a completely new rear.
The Mini follows a path that we see more often in the automotive world. There is a new model, fully electric, which now has the model name Cooper for the first time. The car is and will continue to be available as an EV only, but that doesn’t mean Mini is abandoning its petrol customers. They may continue to choose a three-door, five-door or convertible in the future, but it will be a different car than the new EV. Instead of an all-new model, ‘fossil buyers’ are presented with a heavily facelifted version of the current Mini, a model that originally dates back to 2013.
The last generation Mini petrol was the first Mini to also appear as a five-door hatchback. It is the car that we are now seeing in a new form for the first time. Count on the heavily modified and loose nose, no doubt made for the electric Mini Cooper. However, the big news today is at the back, where this five-door Mini clearly also has taillights and a tailgate in the style of the new EV. This was not the case with the converter seen earlier. The three-door Mini, also spotted, appears to have a new rear bumper and under a thick layer of camouflage. So it could be that the Convertible will soon be the only one left with taillights in its current form, although in theory things could still change.
Since the whole point of the facelift is to avoid investing a lot of money in petrol cars, we don’t expect a complete change from a technical point of view. Count on engines that are now also offered in the Mini, but perhaps in a new and more efficient form.
