Mercedes took P4 and P5 in the Formula 1 Monaco GP, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell respectively, and team principal Toto Wolff was pleased with the result.
At one point in the race, Russell was behind Hamilton, and he asked over the radio if he could pass his teammate and try to attack Esteban Ocon who was in P3. In any case, Russell had already received a five-second penalty, and Mercedes disagreed with the Briton’s proposal.
“George usually puts a lot of pressure on himself, that’s what he is,” Wolff told ServusTV. “I don’t think he thought we’d change positions either. I said we didn’t even discuss it, and staying calm is important,” added Wolff.
The head of the Mercedes team continued: “It was a race where you can make a lot of mistakes and go off the track, but the pace was very good in the rain, the choice of strategy was correct and it’s a result we can be happy with today.” concluded Wolff.
