Lewis Hamilton has not yet signed a new contract with Mercedes. The seven-time champion is expected to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the 2023 Formula 1 season, with the German team. The Englishman has considered ending his career at McLaren or Ferrari, but for now he is happy at Mercedes, he told ESPN.
The Mercedes driver is far from thinking about giving up. “I have no intention of stopping soon. I’m not at the bottom of my career, I’m at my peak,” said Hamilton. “It all depends on how hard I want to work and put my peak, in terms of physical and mental ability,” said the 38-year-old.
He still has a big dream, which is to win his eighth title, which would be a new record in Formula 1. Despite being in talks with Mercedes, the driver knows that Mercedes is late today, far from having a championship-winning car. .
But when it comes time to retire, where would Hamilton like to end his career? “I’d be lying if I said I never thought about finishing my career somewhere else,” he said. “I started at McLaren and I’d like to think I’ll always be part of the McLaren family.” His thoughts on McLaren will always be positive, after all he won his first F1 title with the British team.
However, it is likely to arrive somewhere else before retirement, as a red jumpsuit would not look bad either in Hamilton’s own opinion. “I’ve always watched Ferrari drivers on TV and on the track, and of course you wonder what it would be like to be in red. But then I look at my current team and I think, this is my home. I’m happy where I am. I haven’t signed a contract yet, but we’re working on it one”, finished the seven-time champion.
