Driven by Dustin Hoffman, the Buick from Rain Man is being auctioned for R$1.7 million

A prominent presence in the 1988 film Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise, a cream-colored 1949 Buick Roadmaster was auctioned in the United States. The original design used in scenes from the Oscar-winning production has been fully preserved and belonged to Hoffman the entire time. The actor, however, kept it mostly as a scrap in his garage.

In a statement from the house that auctioned the model, Bonhams, said it was not right for the car to run around. “It has been preserved for a long time. It must be carried, cherished and cherished”, he explained.

Hoffman bought a Buick Roadmaster shortly after filming ended and has kept it ever since. In addition to being beautiful on the outside, the model still has its 5.2-liter 8-cylinder engine working perfectly with a two-speed DynaFlow automatic transmission. The set produces 150 hp.

The auction house expected the car to sell for between US$150,000 and US$250,000 – around R$796,000 and R$1.3 million at current prices. However, expectations were exceeded with a bid of US$335,000 (R$1.7 million).

This car is one of two used in the film.
