The CUPRA concept previously presented as the UrbanRebel will be released under the Raval name from 2025. On the first day of the Automobile Barcelona motor show, Wayne Griffiths, CEO of SEAT and CUPRA, confirmed the name of the future city car of city brand, name. which serves as a tribute to the neighborhood of El Raval, in the center of Barcelona, and for which several tips have already been given.
“Raval is one of the most amazing places in Barcelona. And today, we are proud that the future electric city car of the city bears its name and represents its spirit. As we did with CUPRA Born, now we want to express the essence of Raval and continue to inspire the world from Barcelona”, explained Wayne Griffiths.
The head of the brand admitted that the CUPRA Raval will be “an urban car, aggressive and 100% electric, with its own character and connected to ‘Generation Z’. Something that makes more sense.” It will be produced at SEAT SA’s headquarters in Martorell and the company will invest 3 billion euros in converting the plant from combustion to electricity and will produce electric vehicles from 2025 based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB sub-platform. It is believed that this platform will make it possible to produce models from the Volkswagen group that will cost between 20,000 and 25,000 euros with versions of 48 kWh and 300 km of autonomy (WLTP) and 62 kWh and 400 km of autonomy. SEAT SA leads the Small BEV range for the different brands of the Volkswagen Group.
SEAT SA has announced the name of its future CUPRA model, in line with the best first quarter results in its history. Between January and March, the company recorded an operating profit of 144 million euros, an improvement of 139 million euros compared to the first quarter of the previous year, and a turnover of 3.6 billion euros, which represents an increase of 48% compared to the first three months of 2022. These numbers are based on CUPRA, which drives the growth of the company’s financial results. Since its launch in 2018, CUPRA has sold more than 300,000 cars, exceeding all expectations. In 2022, the brand reached 4.4 billion euros in sales, 40% of the company’s total, making it one of the fastest growing brands in Europe and Spain. This year’s numbers are also good, with 46,600 units sold in the first quarter of 2023, 83% more than in the same period in 2022.
