Columbia University International Education Center in Athens from 2023

The establishment of the International Education Center of New York’s Columbia University in Athens was announced by the President of Columbia University, Lee Bollinger, as part of his visit to Greece for their participation in “Beacon 2022: Hellenic-American Cooperation in Higher Education. “A conference with representatives from the top 30 American Universities.

The Center is expected to welcome the first students in 2023, with the aim of enriching the ongoing teaching, scientific and research work in our country, in osmosis with the Greek HEIs and the Greek university community.

Efforts to strengthen the transformation of Greek university institutions for international cooperation are structured around three axes:

– The introduction of a new legal system that provides:

more freedom for Greek universities to establish wider partnerships (eg joint/double degrees, joint research centres, summer and winter study programs) and

automatic academic recognition of academic titles from abroad, canceling individual applications to DOATAP for holders of titles from recognized institutions.

-Providing many financial tools to support universities in this effort, for example:

20 million euros for internationalization measures for Greek HEIs

60 million euros for the program of visiting professors

-Developing strategic professional relationships with key players such as Europe, USA, UK, among others.
