PT Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI) has actually partnered with PT Handal Indonesia Motor, to produce cars in Indonesia. For the record, Chery has started assembly in Indonesia, but its status is still CKD or Total Knock Down.
Chery Indonesia has carried out the first car assembly process in Indonesia on September 20 2022. This first assembly process was carried out by Chery in a factory owned by its partner, namely PT Handal Indonesia Motor. However, Chery is sure to have big plans when it has a factory and produces cars in Indonesia.
“In the initial phase we still continue to work together (with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM)) because in the near future we will have our own factory. But we do not have a permanent plan to cooperate with the local assembly, because we have plans to have our own factory themselves,” said PT CSI Brand Head, Rifkie Setiawan last week.
Rifkie added that Chery Sales Indonesia is currently considering launching SPKLU, to support the growth of electric vehicles in Indonesia.
“We also have a commitment, but at the moment we are studying with suppliers to provide a wall charge, but that is still being discussed, and also several of our vendors are currently having discussions about SPKLU or charging that Chery has,”
In detikOto’s previous reports, Chery started assembling its electric cars in Indonesia. Indonesia is the first country in ASEAN to produce the Chery Omoda E5 electric car.
Chery is fulfilling its promise to integrate electric vehicles in Indonesia. This was accomplished through the first CKD (Knock Down) production operation of the Omoda 5 EV electric vehicle which has now been renamed the Omoda E5.

We believe that electric vehicles are the future of transportation, and we are committed to being part of the solution in reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia. ,” said PT Chery Indonesia Sales President Chen Chunqing in a press release.
It is known that the manufacturer, which is headquartered in Wuhu, China, will make Indonesia the production base of the right-hand drive vehicles. Chery has also equipped its assembly plant with modern equipment to support the production of its electric vehicles in Indonesia.
Production of the Omoda E5 was carried out on time to meet the delivery schedule to customers which will be implemented in the first quarter of 2024.
“Chery’s electric car, the Omoda E5, which was released for the first time yesterday in Southeast Asia is the latest result and shows our commitment to the Indonesian market. We will continue to encourage technological innovation, providing mobility solutions that is more environmentally friendly, smarter and more convenient for consumers “Indonesia. On this occasion we would like to express our deep gratitude and thanks for the support of the governments of China and Indonesia, all partners and their media colleagues who were present yesterday,” said Chery International Director President Zhang Guibing.
The Omoda E5 was first seen in Indonesia at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Previously, Chery only showed this crossover-style electric car. However, the interest of the Indonesian people is high enough that Chery has opened orders for the Omoda E5. Chery claims that so far 400 units of the Omoda E5 have been ordered.
