Charles Leclerc keeps Ferrari in contention for pole position at Monaco GP

Hoping for a home run, Charles Leclerc has positioned Ferrari as a contender to top the grid for Saturday’s Monaco Grand Prix. Even with a bias towards Red Bull and Aston Martin in the growth period, the Monegasque driver considered the possibility by saying that “anything is possible” when the cars take to the track during qualifying.

In the free practice that took place this Friday, Max Verstappen confirmed the expectations and closed the practice session with the best time. Leclerc, however, appears in second place and hot on the Dutchman’s heels. The difference between the two was more than half a second.

When asked about the performance and also the fact of competing for his fans, he left the conflict open. “Yes, we are in a fight. From practice Aston Martin and Red Bull seem to be very fast as well, so we need to make a step forward.”

In an interview, he said that free practice showed the evolution of Ferrari since work on the tracks began on Thursday. “The feeling I had in the car in FP1 was not too bad, but a little difficult. In FP2 it was better, but there were unexpected things in my car. So we will work immediately to get the car the way I want on Saturday.”

In the battle to win the right to start first in Monaco, Leclerc did not believe in himself and said he is doing everything to achieve his goal. “I will give everything. Qualifying is everything here. Qualifying has been one of my strengths and that’s why I’m not worried. I’ll try and we’ll see what happens”, he concluded.
