JAKARTA – Buick, the famous car brand in the United States owned by General Motors, announced a series of major changes intended to emphasize its shift to electric vehicles.
The company says it will release its first EV for the North American market in 2024. They even said that they will sell only electric cars by the end of the decade.
Its future EV will be named “Electra” in reference to the company’s past. It unveiled a new concept car, the Wildcat, which is meant to tease its electric future. It even updated its three-shield logo, ditching the circular design for a body-mounted horizontal display, to emphasize the “brand change.”
Buick is the latest of four GM-owned auto brands, along with Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac, to reveal its electrification plans.
Earlier this year, the company teased the launch of its first EV to US car buyers, by revealing headlights that mirrored a concept car called the Electra, released by Buick several years earlier. Now, the company has confirmed that the Electra name will be the cornerstone of the company’s efforts to sell only electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
“The Buick brand is committed to an all-electric future by the end of this decade,” said Duncan Aldred, Buick’s vice president, in a statement. Borders. “The new Buick logo, use of the Electra name series, and a new design look for our future products will transform the brand.”

Both the Wildcat and Electra names have been used for Buick vehicles in the past. The Buick Wildcat was a full-size sedan produced from 1963 to 1970, while the automaker’s Electra line had the longest shelf life, from the mid-1950s to the 1990s. The Electra was also Buick’s flagship sedan throughout its production run.
Buick struggles with a reputation as an old-school car brand in the US, but enjoys a high profile in China, where sales remain strong. Companies are likely to use strength training the new Ultium electric car and GM’s battery system to power its future EV system.
GM has said it will spend $35 billion on electric and self-driving cars by 2025, with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
