Bengaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team in Bengaluru arrested him about 20 kg gold at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in February, marking the highest monthly gold catch since the end of the pandemic or in the past two years.
Sources said that the DRI Bengaluru team, using special intelligence, seized 9.3 kg of gold in the first week, followed by 4.4 kg in the second week, 2.2 kg in the third week, and an additional 4.3 kg in the fourth week.
On February 28, two passengers were caught by officers in two separate cases at KIA. The first passenger, who arrived on an Air India flight from Singapore, was stopped, questioned and searched based on intel.
The Thai citizen was found carrying a raw gold bracelet (bracelet) and chain, weighing 2.8 kg. These items were found hidden in his luggage.
In a second incident that happened on the same day, a passenger of Indian origin traveled on an Emirates flight from Dubai. During his examination, a gold bar weighing 1.5 kg was taken out of his pocket.
